It is
unfortunate that so many American wine drinkers have
come to know Australia through the mass-marketed,
commercially produced, factory made to order, simple
and sweet- styled wines that we refer to as “critter
wines”. Their unmistakable kangaroo, koala or
fill-in-the blank creature “brands” the
wine indelibly in the consumer’s memory bank.
Our mission for Australia is to bring back a sense
of place. We are bringing wines to the market that
have the soul of the family and identity of the place
in the bottle. The Australian producers we represent
have long histories in grape growing; in fact, many
of them are founding members of their Australian Viticultural
region. It is an eye-opening experience to see the
differences this largely unpopulated vast country
of many climates can bring to wine. We are happy to
represent the minority in spite of the challenges
we face to educate and “un-do” the mono-dimension
of the critter wine.
